Dramaturgy

I have spent most of my career working on new plays and I have been privileged to collaborate with some of the UK’s greatest contemporary playwrights.

I have commissioned, developed and directed new plays by Mike Bartlett, James Graham, Kae Tempest, Penelope Skinner, Tom Wells, Lucy Kirkwood, Anna Jordan, Amanda Whittington, David Baddiel, Elinor Cook, Nick Payne, Brad Birch, Marie Jones, Brad Birch, Sam Steiner and many more.

Over 20 years with new writing powerhouses nabokov, The Bush and Paines Plough I have commissioned and worked with hundreds of writers from Olivier, Tony and BAFTA winners to first-time writers on everything from short plays to new musicals. I am a student of playwriting and I have delivered hundreds of workshops on playwriting, dramaturgy and the writer/director relationship on new plays.

I work with writers on everything from dramatic structure to character arcs to musical interpolation. I believe concretely that the writer is the lead creative artists in the process of making new theatre so my dramaturgical approach is deferential and facilitatory.
